Vases

The Perfect Gift Everytime!

I grew up watching Aunt Ruth paint landscapes and I did not realize how much it would affect me.  I am in the process of learning the right way to paint landscapes myself.  I spent 2 weeks in Utah this last summer working on landscapes and this experience greatly affected me when I blew glass afterwards.  My values changed and I worked on several ideas I had to represent the “local color” of Utah that my teacher John Poon had taught me.  I wanted the shape to represent a functional vase and the color of those gorgeous mountains and the feeling of of lost time while I felt while I painted them.

Flowers are always attractive to everyone, so making vases was dream of mine.  I enjoy making things that will be used and are simple.  I have many happy memories of vacations for 2 weeks on the water every year from skiing, swimming, scuba diving, fishing, games, picking flowers for a vase on our table, relaxing and playing jokes on each other.  So I wanted to represent water with the colors and shapes that are round like of drop of water.  I even added a mouth (for flowers) that is like a fish. I still have dreams of these family vacations.
